“The expectation is that books are supposed to reach conclusions that bring all the things that have been going on to an end so the reader can stop thinking about them. I avoid conclusions, not just to frustrate readers but to make them realize that they’re going to have to take the book for what it is—a piece of writing that exists on its own and whose essential interest is its process. Isn’t that the way life is, after all? No conclusions, no escape, until the very end.”
I love this! Yes, that’s exactly the way life is.
